HILO, Hawaii – Recently, Big Island Video News presented our first report on the proposed Water Management Area Designation for the Keauhou Aquifer. It featured a lengthy, February 4th presentation by the state Water Commission to the Hawaii County Council Planning Committee.

After the presentation, Bill Tam, the Deputy Director for the state Commission on Water Resource Management, discussed the pending petition with the councilmembers.

Deputy Director Tam also talked about the troubling trend in the equation: climate change.

From the beginning, the Moku Loa group of the Sierra Club was one of the first organizations to come out in favor of the Water Management Area Designation. Here is Deborah Ward speaking at the February 4th council planning committee hearing.

We will have much more on this ongoing discussion in the coming weeks. Every day we will feature a different voice participating in this heated debate.
