The 11th Annual “He Hali’a Aloha O Liliuokalani Festival” was held at Hilo’s scenic Liliuokalani Gardens on Sunday. The event celebrated the Hawaiian queen’s birthday.

Bruddah Smitty was among a list of entertainers paying tribute to the memory of the queen, who herself was musically gifted.

The event included lots of family games, food and of course, hula.

The County of Hawaii partnered with the Queen Liliuokalani Children’s Center, Hula Halau O Kou Lima Nani E, Pacific Radio Group, Hilo Fire Extinguishers, Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, and the Hawaii Tropical Flowers Council to present the cultural event.

The 30 acre park was donated by Queen Liliuokalani for use as a Japanese garden honoring the hardworking immigrants on Hawaii Island. It was later dedicated in memory of the queen in 1917.
