Big Island under Flash Flood Advisory until 2 a.m. Monday

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Advisory for parts of East Hawaii.

HILO, Hawaii – The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Advisory for parts of East Hawaii.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the

* flood advisory for the Island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 2:00 a.m. HST

* at 10:37 p.m. HST … Rain gage at the Hilo Airport showed heavy rain falling at a rate of over an inch per hour. Radar data showed more locally heavy rains are moving over the area.

* other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Laupahoehoe… Hilo… Mountain View and Glenwood.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

Stay away from streams… Drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding… Reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around… Don’t drown.National Weather Service at 10:48 p.m. HST

A flash flood watch is also in effect for all islands until 6 p.m. on Monday.
