Downtown Hilo is dressed up for Black and White Night on Friday night; businesses host food and entertainment as the well-dressed travel from store to store to celebrate our unique bay side city.

And there was good news for the downtown businesses on Thursday… the Hawaii County Council passed Resolution 352 10, approving the EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025 Community-based Action and Living Plan – 5 Year Action Plan Update.

Councilpersons Emily Naeole, Dominic Yagong, and Donald Ikeda spoke in support of the Plan and the roll call was quickly taken – 8-0.

The document had been the subject of some controversy between planners and some businesses owners, which came to light during the approval process. The County Council opted to delay a vote on the plan and sent the parties back out into the world to work out their differences. On Thursday, many of those who had opposed the EDH2025 plan were now in favor of it, and it appears as if all sides have been able to iron out their differences.

Just in time for the big Friday party, no less.
