Don’t be surprised if your Hawaii Tribune-Herald is a little late today.

On Monday evening, a report of a small fire at the Kinoole Street building of the Big Island newspaper of record created a scene of flashing lights from police and fire trucks.

Employees waited outside as the situation was brought under control. No building damage was visible from the Kinoole side of the street.

UPDATE: On Tuesday’s Hawaii Tribune-Herald website update, some details of the fire were confirmed by the paper.

“A small fire broke out in the Tribune-Herald’s press room Monday night,” the site states, “delaying timely publication and delivery of today’s edition. The fire, which started at about 7 p.m., was quickly extinguished by Hawaii County firefighters. No injuries were reported at the newspaper.”

The Herald’s website said the fire damaged the paper’s press, forcing Tuesday’s paper to be printed out of Kailua-Kona, at the sister West Hawaii Today, and delivered from across the island.

Due to the circumstances, the Tribune-Herald is offering a free version of the e-Edition to readers on their website.
