HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, Hawaii – New lava flows on the eastern and northern flanks of Puʻu ʻŌʻō that began May 24 continue to be active. On Thursday, an impressive skylight was seen on the east breakout.
The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory measured the skylight at about 20 feet across, and inside a fast moving lava stream can be seen traveling downslope.
The farthest end of the eastern flow is 0.8 miles from its vent.
