Census 2010 intends to count even those who may not want to be counted

Waipio Valley, Hawaii – On the Big Island of Hawaii, the sacred and scenic Waipio Valley is known as a secluded world unto itself. Those who live there enjoy the isolation, and it is said that there is a transient population that finds it a fine place to “disappear”.
Meanwhile, the 2010 Hawaii Census, charged with conducting a complete count of everyone on the island, intends to find out exactly who is making the valley their home.
The census effort considers Waipio Valley to be a place that is “hard to count” and presents an unusual challenge to enumerators.
In this video, Big Island Video News catches up with the Census van as it stakes out the Waipio Valley overlook, part of the census campaign to raise awareness over the importance of the count.
