HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK – On January 24, USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologist Matt Patrick gave an After Dark In The Park talk entitled “How Do HVO Geologists Track Lava Flows and Lava Lakes?”. Patrick’s presentation explained the toolkit he and other scientists use to map lava flows and measure lava lakes, and described how scientists continuously improve their methods of tracking volcanic activity.

The video above is part two of two videos taken from Patrick’s presentation, which was recorded by the National Park Service. The talk focuses on the Kilauea summit eruption and the lava lake within.
