HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK – A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck Hawaii Island at 8:29 a.m.
The quake was located about 6 miles southwest of Volcano Village, just below and to the south of the Kīlauea volcano summit caldera, at a depth of about 1.8 miles.
Preliminary USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory data shows only a handful of people reported feeling weak shaking.
Tiltmeters at Kīlauea’s summit began recording inflationary tilt at the volcano early Wednesday morning, USGS data shows.
