The proposed sale of vacant Hamakua lands in order to balance the county budget has caught the attention of some members of the Hawaiian sovereignty community.

In this short video, Albert Kahiwahiwaokalani Haa Jr. speaks about the land during the county meeting in Hilo.

Haa says the title to the lands are clouded, dating as far back as before the sugar plantation days.

Hamakua Councilman Dominic Yagong is again investigating an amendment that would preserve the land from sale. Tuesday’s Hamakua discussion was postponed.
