Earthquake Rattles Kilauea South Flank, Civil Defense Message Issued

STORY SUMMARY

HAWAII ISLAND - A preliminary Magnitude 4.4 earthquake shook parts of the Big Island on Tuesday. No tsunami is expected, officials say.


(BIVN) – The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports a Magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred at 2:24 p.m. centered in the vicinity of the south side of Kilauea Volcano.

This earthquake was not large enough to cause a tsunami for the Island of Hawai‘i, civil defense reported. Some areas may have experienced shaking.

The temblor was felt as far away as Hilo.
