STORY SUMMARY

VOLCANO VILLAGE, Hawaiʻi - The complete video from a January 2019 night of story telling at the Volcano Art Center has been published.

(BIVN) – In January 2019, the Volcano Village community gathered to share their personal experiences during the 2018 eruption of Kīlauea Volcano, and now a video of the entire evening of story-telling has been published.

Big Island Video News previously published the talk by Tina Neal, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Scientist-in-Charge, describes the dramatic moment in May 2018 when she concluded it was “time to go”, and evacuate the HVO headquarters inside the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.

We also shared National Park ranger Dean Gallagher’s story about the dramatically altered Halemaʻumaʻu crater, where he was approached by a white-tailed tropicbird, or koaʻe kea, known to make its nest on the volcanic cliffs.

But there were many more who spoke that night at the Volcano Art Center, voices young and old. After a three-month delay we are finally able to publish the full video. A special thanks to all who shared their stories!
