(BIVN) – In a 11-hour meeting held in the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Performing Arts Center, the Board of Regents voted unanimously to approve administrative rules for UH-managed lands on Maunakea.
The rules were widely criticized in public hearings held across the state, and the latest draft of the rules were no more popular. 99 people testified at the special meeting, and most of them were not unhappy with the proposal.
The regents made one change to the rules; they eliminated the requirement that groups of 10 or more must register before entering UH-managed areas.
The rules now advance to Governor David Ige for final approval.
