North Kohala couple arrested for marijuana

The Hawaii County Police Department has issued the following media release:

Officers from the North Kohala Patrol Division were assisted by members of the Area II Vice Section in serving a search warrant Tuesday morning (June 29) at a home on Ka’ahuhu Road in Kohala.

At the scene, police arrested a 58-year-old Hawi man for marijuana and other drug offenses. Investigators recovered 102 marijuana plants, approximately 340 grams of processed marijuana, more than 7 grams of hashish and miscellaneous grow equipment from the residence. Officers also seized $2,990 in cash for forfeiture.

The man’s 60-year-old wife, who was not home when the warrant was served, was arrested by North Kohala patrol officers for the same offenses on Wednesday (June 30).

Jules and Carol Laramee were each arrested on one count of commercial promotion of marijuana, promoting a detrimental drug, promoting a harmful drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Investigators from the Vice Section continued the investigation. After conferring with prosecutors, they released Carol Laramee Wednesday afternoon pending further investigation.

Police charged Jules Laramee with his offenses late Wednesday afternoon. He was released from custody later that evening after posting $17,500 bail.
