VIDEO: Albert Haa Jr. testifies at Ethics Commission

On Wednesday, Albert Kahiwahiwa o Kalani Haa Jr. provided testimony during an unusual Ethics Commission meeting in Hilo.
Ha’a, who traces his genealogy directly back to Kamehameha III, was supporting a complaint filed by Shelley Stephens, a Hawaiian activist who has been working hard to bring to light what she says are criminal injustices in past Hawaiian land acquisitions. Stephens was hoping to get the Ethics Commission to rule that the county’s attempted sale of the Hamakua Lands was unethical, especially in light of the forensic evidence she presented that she says reveals a trail of altered documents and clouded title.
The Ethics Commission declined to rule on the matter, saying that the issue was beyond their jurisdiction, which is limited to the Hawaii County Code.
