STORY SUMMARY

SOUTH KOHALA, Hawaiʻi - The latest Water Restriction Notice replaces the Essential Water Use Only Notice, which has been cancelled.

(BIVN) – The Essential Water Use Only Notice previously issued for an area of South Kohala has been cancelled, and replaced with a Water Restriction Notice until further notice.

The Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply issued the updated notice on Monday, saying affected customers must now reduce water use by at least 25 percent. Irrigation customers are required to reduce use by at least 50 percent.

The affected areas include Kawaihae, Kawaihae Harbor, Hāpuna Beach Resort, Mauna Kea Beach Resort, Puakō, and the Mauna Lani Resort.

Officials say these restrictions are needed due to ongoing repairs of water supply wells. Reducing water use will help to maintain water levels in the storage tanks for all customers, the department says.
