Mufi Hannemann and Neil Abercrombie, front running Democratic candidates for Hawaii governor, met with members of the Hawaii Island Healthcare Alliance a few hours before Thursday’s big candidate forum in Kona.

Meeting in a Kealakehe High School classroom, the two candidates set aside their aggressive campaign rhetoric for an hour in order to quietly sit and listen to hospital executives explain the critical challenges facing health care on the Big Island. The candidates then explained their position on health care, focused on Hawaii County, and answered questions from the alliance.
