On Wednesday, the Hawaii County Council approved a resolution to negotiate a 99-year lease of 21 acres of land at Puna’s Pohoiki, for a planned cultural center and swimming area.
Puna councilwoman Emily Naeole-Beason introduced the measure earlier through the finance committee. The resolution asks the county to negotiate with the Kealoha Estate, through its trustee Ku’ulei Kealoha Cooper Springer, for a lease or memorandum of agreement for the site, which is near to the county’s Isaac Hale Beach Park.
