Election Day saw some rough surf that forced closure of popular Keaukaha area beach parks.

Ocean Safety and the Hawaii Police Department closed Onekahakaha, Kealoha – or Four Mile – and Leleiwi Beach parks due to the high surf.

The Hilo police receiving desk this morning advised Big Island Video News that the beaches were still closed this morning.

The national weather service this morning posted a high surf asvisory for the north and east facing shores of the Big Island. A powerful low passing well north of the islands has generated a large north northwest swell that will continue through Thursday.
