A well known local muralist will be teaching her trade in a Youth Workshop this weekend.
Students ages 14 and up are invited to spend 3 days developing their artistic talents through the practice of mural painting with experienced mural artist Kathleen Kam, beginning Friday January 14th from 3-6pm, and then Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm.
Kathleen Kam is a local muralist with a background in teaching at St. Joseph’s Elementary School and over 10 years experience as an Artistic Teaching Partner with the Hawaii Art Alliance. Her recent mural projects include KTA downtown Hilo, seen in this video, and the Volcano General Store, among others.
In the end, they will leave with 2 projects: one to bring home and keep, and one that will be fused into Volcano Art Center’s collaborative floor mural project. The cost for the 3 day workshop is $110, plus $10 materials. Membership discounts and Financial Aid available. This workshop takes place at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus at 19-4074, Old Volcano Road.
