A crowd of local leaders and dignitaries gathered at the Pohakuloa Training Area on Tuesday, as the United States Army celebrated its 236th birthday.

The day included talks on the future expansion of PTA, updates on Saddle Road construction, environmental efforts, and depleted uranium. The get-together even included birthday cake.

After the presentations, Lt. Col. Rolland Niles – commander at PTA – led the group around the aging facility, in an attempt to illustrate the army’s need for upgrades.

The tour included a stop at Pohakuloa’s green house, where rare and endangered native plants are propagated.

We will have more on this gathering in the coming weeks.
