MAUNA KEA, Hawaii: Last week, state senators Donovan Dela Cruz and Gilbert Kahele made a few short presentations to the Hawaii County Council committee on Governmental Relations.

One of those presentations focused on the Public Land Development Corporation… a new initiative that was signed into law by Governor Neil Abercrombie after this past legislative session. The corporation will seek to generate revenue for the Department of Land and Natural Resources using public lands.

Senator Dela Cruz used Mauna Kea State Park, here on the Big Island, as an example for the need of the corporation.

Council Chair Dominic Yagong thanked Dela Cruz for his presentation, but reiterated some of the skeptical thoughts of his fellow councilmembers.
