MAUNA KEA, Hawaii: Looks like the winter weather has returned to Hawaii Island’s sacred mountain.

From the Mauna Kea  Weather Center ranger report on Tuesday, March 06, 2012 at 7:58 a.m.

Aloha,

The Mauna Kea Access Road is currently closed above the Visitor Information Station due to snow accumulation on summit roads.

We will continue to update this message as conditions change.

Mahalo and have a safe day.

A winter weather advisory is in effect, according to the National Weather Service. Webcams from the summit observatories are clouded with ice, but beyond you can catch a glimpse of snow falling.

The weather service says up to two inches of snow can be expected on the summit.
