HILO, Hawaii – It was a colorful extravaganza along the Hilo Bayfront on Saturday, as the first ever, Hawaii County-designated “Gay Pride Day” was celebrated with a parade and festival.

Hawaii’s LGBT community – or lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender – marched through Downtown Hilo during the historic parade, before gathering at Mo`oheau Park for a well attended festival.

In this video, we hear from Pat Rocco, a 79 year old Puna resident and filmmaker who played a large role in bringing the Gay Pride Festivals to Hollywood, California in 1973.
