Candidates running for public office gathered in Hilo on the eve of the general election. The Democratic Grand Rally, always held at the Mo’oheau Bandstand along the bayfront, is an island tradition. This year’s primary election rally was called off due to the Hurricane / Tropical Storm Iselle, making Monday night’s event the first Grand Rally ever attended by the Democrats’ gubernatorial hopeful Sen. David Ige.
