HONOLULU, Hawaii – A news conference will be held in the Executive Office Chambers today – Tuesday, May 26 at 1:30 p.m. – to announce Governor David Ige’s “proposed way forward for the stewardship of Mauna Kea.”

A few minutes before Big Island Video News received the media advisory about the Governor’s press conference, the Office of Mauna Kea Management sent out a newsletter announcing an “Open House and Kukakuka Session” on Thursday May 28th at the Halepohaku Presentation Room just below the Visitor information Station on Maunakea (and the encampment site of the Ku Kia’i Mauna protectors) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
OMKM – which is charged with day-to-day management of the Mauna Kea Science Reserve as prescribed in the Master Plan – is inviting the public to talk story and “help us improve”, “share knowledge about the natural resources on Maunakea and how we protect them”, and “learn about OMKM including guiding plans, policies, and procedures.” Other agencies have been invited to come and participate.

HONOLULU (AP) – A 2007 report warned about the risks involved in developing a giant telescope on Mauna Kea.
The report by a Colorado firm hired to evaluate the risks warned that building the Thirty Meter Telescope would come with stiff resistance from Native Hawaiians, lawsuits and regulatory hurdles.

As someone who has followed the process fromt the start, I am unaware of any lies from TMT. They have been very open going through the approval process.
You also have no idea how OMKM and MKSS works. There are a lot of good people who care and are working to protect the mountian. Try learning a bit before you simply insult people.
Good people abound yet the truth does not. Lets see if it comes out in the kukakuka. It in fact should come out first to guide the discussion. Hawaii is a free, sovereign, nation illegally suppressed and occupied by the u.s. and its belligerence and arrogance. What will we be doing with the truth first.
Ask TMT. TMT refuses to acknowledge the truth. “Is Mauna Kea sacred and of cultural importance to Hawaiians?” and “Who does the summit of Mauna Kea belong to?” Then ask TMT to document proof of title and consent.
Funny how the governor gotta remind this omkm snakes what their job is as management. The other day omkm was sure they were doing the right thing. All I see up mauna kea is a fat guy that has japan/hawaiian homes managing wild sheep so people don’t hunt in his place. As of omkm I see them all the time taking a joy ride like tourist. I never seen omkm outside of their van on mauna kea. Especially Stephanie nagata spokes person at the laupahoehoe meeting for omkm. All false cover up stories with a smile=snake. But we failed mauna kea from cultural and natural resources perspective as gov. David Ige calls it. We failed?
Hmmmm! What is truth? Who’s truth? Yes, definitely, Mauna Kea is sacred and of cultural importance to Hawaiians, however nobody owns Mauna Kea. It belongs only to God and Pele. Mauna Kea was here long before the Polynesians and everybody else came to the Hawaiian Islands and it will be here long after we humans have killed each other off even as the various Alii did before Captain Cook and as King Kamehameha the Great did in order to unify the Islands.
We humans seem to have a need to consider something or some religion sacred. Everybody seems to think they have a special handle on God and to prove it, Christians, Jews and Muslims continue to fight each other and everybody else for thousands and thousands of years.
Personally, I do not think the TMT should be built on Mauna Kea. It will be obsolete before it is built. Compare the quality of the ground based telescopes to the Hubble which is in orbit?
Instead the TMT should also be placed in orbit or on the Moon.
Demand that Congress get the Skunk Works at Area 51 to release the technology for Anti-Gravity which is already being used by the Military.
Travel to the Moon can be done in a few hours.
