KAWAIHAE, Hawaii – A runaway brushfire is burning off Kawaihae Road near the 65 mile marks.

The Kawaihae Road is closed to all traffic between the Kohala Mountain Road intersection and the intersection of Kawaihae Road and Queen Kaahuman Highway. This is due to a related motor vehicle accident, officials say.

Fire fighters and heavy equipment are on the scene, and it is not known when the road will re-open, civil defense says.
