HAWAII ISLAND (BIVN) - An island-wide malfunction of the tsunami sirens raised concerns Friday night, but officials say there was no emergency.

HAWAII ISLAND – The sudden sounding of the warning sirens on Hawaii Island Friday night was a false alarm, officials say.

“Regarding Civil Defense sirens, there is no emergency,” police declared in a Nixle alert issued at 9:59 p.m., a few mintues after the sirens went off.

“Sirens malfunctioned,” police said.

Police said the malfunction was island-wide.
