HILO, Hawaii - Friends, family, and county officials packed the Mokuola ballroom for the ceremonial badge pinning for the county's newest police officers.

(BIVN) – The Hawaii Police Department’s 85th recruit class were recognized during a ceremony Thursday the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

Recruit Class President Debney Jaramillo addressed the government officials – and the recruit class family members – following the traditional badge pinning and reaffirmation of oath.

Jaramillo, joins Bryson Arquitola-Takiue, Lawrence Yeung, Adam Hanes, Jarrin Okutsu, and Erica Carbalo as the graduates of the 85th recruit class, whose motto is Ka Ikaika Malama me ke Aloha, or “the strong serve with aloha”.

Tracey Wise, a mental health / substance abuse counselor with the Hawaii Department of Health, was the keynote speaker.
