HONOMU, Hawaii - The gas tanker fire resulting from a fatal crash on Saturday was finally extinguished Monday morning.

(BIVN) – The Hawaii County Police report Highway 19 in the area of Honomu is now open to all traffic.

“Mahalo for your patience and cooperation,” police messaged in an 11 a.m. update.

At 5:20 a.m. Monday morning, fire personnel were able to extinguish the propane fire venting from the Gas Co tanker following a fatal, head on collision that occurred Saturday.

The blaze, which burned for three days, forced the extended closure of Highway 19.
