HILO, Hawaii - The West Hawaiʻi firefighter was honored during the Annual Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year Awards on Monday night.

(BIVN) – Kainoa Willey has been named the Firefighter of the Year by the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaiʻi.

Willey was honored during Monday night’s Annual Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year Awards banquet. Also honored was the Police Officer of the Year, Conrad Bidal.

According to a county media release:

Firefighter Willey is honored for his outstanding work as a Firefighter/EMT in West Hawaiʻi, but what sets him apart is his initiative in volunteering for several community projects sponsored by the Hawaiʻi Fire Department including spearheading numerous fundraising efforts for Fire Department Personnel in need of financial assistance due to illness, injury, or traumatic events.
