STORY SUMMARY

HILO, Hawaiʻi - The police recruits participated in a badge pinning ceremony and a reaffirmation on oath during the program at the Hilo Hawaiia Hotel.

(BIVN) – Family, friends, and County officials attended Friday’s ceremony for the 89th recruit class for the Hawaiʻi Police Department, held at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

Officer Daniel Rances served as the Master of Ceremonies, which included a badge pinning and a reaffirmaton of oath administered by Cheif Paul Ferreira, a presentation of awards and certificates, and after the program, hugs and leis for the graduates.

The Keynote Speaker for the event was Tracey Wise with the Hawaiʻi County Community Mental Health Center. Hawaiʻi County Mayor Harry Kim and Police Commission Chair Wayne DeLuz also spoke.

Recruit Class President Laurence Davis also took to the podium. This year’s recruit class motto: Piʻi mai na nalu e, e hoe naʻe a mau.
