KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – Plumbing problems are keeping Kahaluu Beach Park in Kona closed to the public.
A sewage spill that occurred two weeks ago resulted in the sudden closure of the popular beach, which is prized by tourists and locals alike for its surfing and snorkeling.
An advisory remains posted to the Hawaii Department of Health Clean Water Branch alert page.
“CWB was notified of a wastewater discharge from a sewer clean out from the park bathroom,” the state posted. “Approximately less than 100 gallons discharged onto the beach and entered the beach waters. Warning signs have been posted and water samples have been collected. The public is advised to remain out of these waters until the signs have been removed.”
The beach park will remain closed until further notice.
