HILO, Hawaii: On Sunday, the Hilo Wayfinding and Navigation Festival honored one of Hawaii’s most famous watermen… Eddie Aikau.

Aikau – now a legendary Hawaiian Hero – was lost at sea in 1978, paddling out to find help as a crew member aboard the capsized Hokule’a voyaging canoe.

In honor of Aikau, Kaimana Barcarse delivered a presentation on Hawaiian Heroes, entirely in the Hawaiian language.

And later, a Panel discussion and Musical Tribute to Eddie, by family members and fellow ocean lovers.
