Residents testify about what they fear will be the negative impacts on the Pepeekeo air quality because of the proposed Hu Honua biomass project.

The testimony was given during the recent Windward Planning Commission. Hu Honua is seeking to amend the use permit allowing their company to convert the defunct Pepeekeo Power Plant into an alternative energy production facility. The new plant would use green waste from the area, like the tall eucalyptus seen growing along the Hamakua Coast, as a feedstock.

Providing a counterpoint to the power plant opponents is Hu Honua president Rick McQuain.
