WASHINGTON – Senator Brian Schatz, member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, met with Dr. Ernest Moniz, President Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Energy, about Hawai‘i’s leadership on clean energy infrastructure and the ways to implement successful policies on a federal level. Moniz is the Director of the Energy Initiative at MIT and previously served as Undersecretary of Energy from 1997 to 2001. “Dr. Moniz and I had a great conversation about climate change in general, and how we can collaborate to create a clean energy economy,” said Senator Schatz. “We spoke of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative and how it can serve as an example for the rest of the world. I’m looking forward to his leadership and his department’s support for Hawaii’s efforts.”
