MAUNA KEA – Hawaii County Police say they are investigating a report of damage at Subaru Telescope on the summit of Mauna Kea.
Police officers responded to a report late Saturday night (June 6) of what appeared to be a “bullet hole” in a door at Subaru. The damage reportedly occurred sometime between Friday evening and Saturday evening.
The Subaru telescope is Japan’s optical-infrared telescope operated by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.
Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call Officer Nelson Cacho at 961-2213 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

It’s not even a bullet hole! It was created by someone from the INSIDE of the observatory swinging the door open too hard and slamming it into an intake manifold on the wall.
