The council voted to support the hiring of two more lifeguards for the Pahoa Community Aquatic Center on Thursday. Puna’s only public swimming pool, which is staffed by three full-time lifeguards, has been unexpectedly closed for a few days recently, raising concern in the community.
Some councilmembers wondered why they couldn’t explore the same issue in their own districts.
The administration told the council there is no funding in the budget for the positions, but the council voted in favor of Emily’s resolution nonetheless.
