Hundreds gathered at North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea, dressed in pink, for the second annual Pink Ribbon event on Saturday.

Participants came dressed in their best outfits, wigs, and scarves – all pink of course – in the kick-off event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Once again, the community took a shot at the “Guinness Book of World Records” by forming a huge human pink ribbon on the front lawn of the hospital.

Unfortunately, organizers say they fell short of the 1,000 person goal once again. But it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who gave it a try.

In the United States alone, it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die from it each year.
