NINOLE, Hawaii: Bystanders say no one was home at this single family dwelling in Ninole on the Hamakua Coast of Hawaii Island, when it apparently exploded and became engulfed in flames.

Fire officials say the home was 50% involved with fire by the time they arrived at 10:15 a.m.

A friend of the occupant said he heard an explosion, possibly propane tanks. Eventually, the occupant returned home to find the upsetting state of his burned wood frame structure.

The fire department had the situation under control within 15 minutes. A fire inspector was on scene and immediately started his investigation, with the aid of a canine.

Fire officials estimate the damages to be around $130,000.

The scene was turned over to the Hawaii Police Department and Fire Inspector. The cause is under investigation.
