From the Hawaii County Police Department:
Chief Harry S. Kubojiri has announced four promotions and three new transfers within the Hawaiʻi Police Department.
Richard Sherlock, right, who is now lieutenant in charge of the Area I Vice Section, will become the captain in charge of Kona Patrol effective December 16. That position has been vacant since Captain Samuel Kawamoto was transferred to the Criminal Intelligence Unit/Internal Affairs in October.
Sherlock has been with the Hawaiʻi Police Department since February 1, 1990. His previous assignments have included patrol officer in the Puna District, community police officer and Criminal Investigations Section detective.
He was promoted to lieutenant in July 2008.
Aimee Wana, right, who is now lieutenant in charge of the Communications/Dispatch Section, will become captain of the South Kohala District on December 16, replacing Captain James Sanborn, who retired at the end of November.
Wana joined the Police Department on April 17, 1995. After serving as a patrol officer, she became a field training officer and later a detective in the Area II Juvenile Aid Section and then a sergeant in Communications/Dispatch.
She was promoted to lieutenant in December 2009.
Albert Jason Cortez, right, is being promoted to captain of the North Kohala District effective January 1.
Cortez has been a member of the Hawaii Police Department since August 3, 1992. He has served as a patrol officer, a DARE officer, a field training officer, a community police officer, a Criminal Investigations Section detective and a detective in the Criminal Intelligence Unit and Internal Affairs.
He was promoted to lieutenant in 2006, serving first in Kona patrol and, most recently, as head of Community Policing.
Reed Mahuna, right, who is now a detective in the Area I Criminal Investigations Section, will be promoted to lieutenant on January 1. His new assignment will take him to the Puna District, where he will replace Lieutenant Glenn Uehaha, who retires at the end of the year.
Mahuna joined the Police Department on February 2, 1998 and initially served as a patrol officer and then a field training officer.
He was promoted to detective in September 2006, serving first in West Hawaiʻi and then in East Hawaiʻi.
Captain Richard Miyamoto, now assigned to the North Kohala District, will transfer to the North Hilo and Hāmākua Districts on January 1. Captain Mitchell Kanehailua, who is now assigned to North Hilo and Hāmākua, will transfer to the Area I Criminal Investigations Section. The current Criminal Investigations Captain, Randall Medeiros, will transfer to the Administrative Services Division to replace Captain Kenneth Vieira, who retires at the end of the year.)
