One week ago, the Hawaii County Council voted to declare a hunger emergency on Hawaii Island, in order to appropriate money to the island’s Food Basket.
Some of the testimony at the council meeting on the day of the decision urged the local leaders to look into ways to improve food sustainability on the island.
Later, we will be taking a look at some of the sustainable agricultural efforts already underway on Hawaii Island… but first, Sherry Bracken has our report on the historic council decision… a first for the Big Island.
