Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 occurred in the area of the Mariana Islands around 2:49 p.m. Hawaii Time. Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami has not been generated. There is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.

Hawaii County Civil Defense was quick to distribute the message that there would be no tsunami moments after the quake hit.

According to preliminary data from the United State Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered in the Pacific Ocean, about 26 miles west of Agrihan in the Northern Mariana Islands.
