PUUANAHULU, Hawaii – Police are asking the public to use caution on Route 190 between the 17 and 20 Mile markers due to heavy rain and ponding.

“Please drive carefully,” warned police in an alert issued over the Nixle messaging network.

In a National Weather Service short term forecast issued at 4:09 p.m. on Monday afternoon:

ISOLATED MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS WILL PERSIST OVER LEEWARD BIG ISLAND THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. SHOWERS WILL FAVOR THE SLOPES NEAR HIGHWAY 190 BETWEEN PUUANAHULU AND WAIMEA.
