HILO, Hawaii – Hilo’s Charles “Sparky” Kawamoto Swim Stadium will be closed for scheduled maintenance from Thursday, August 1 through Friday, August 9. The temporary shutdown is necessary to replace the swimming pool’s filter material.

To accommodate pool users, the Department of Parks and Recreation will allow daily adult lap swimming and public recreational swimming at the NAS Swimming Pool also located in Hilo. The expanded operating hours are as follows:

August 1-2
Adult lap swim – 9-10 a.m.
Adult lap swim – 12-1 p.m.
Public recreational swim – 5:30-7:10 p.m.

August 3-4
Public recreational swim – 9-10:45 a.m.
Adult lap swim – 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Public recreational swim – 1-4:10 p.m.

August 5-9
Adult lap swim – 9-10 a.m.
Adult lap swim – 12-1 p.m.
Public recreational swim – 5:30-7:10 p.m.

These schedules are subject to change. For more information, please call Mason Souza, recreation administrator, at 961-8077.

The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks pool users and the general public for their understanding and patience while the maintenance is being performed.
