HILO, Hawaii – A 54-year-old Hilo man is in custody for an alleged robbery in Downtown Hilo Wednesday.
police responded to the Moʻoheau bus terminal after receiving a report of a fight around noon.
A 32-year-old Hakalau man told police an acquaintance took money from him while at nearby Bandstand, and when he tried to get it back, he was reportedly punched in the face several times. The suspect then fled the area.
Fire Department medics took the victim to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and later released.
The next day, police arrested 54-year-old John Michael Kapahu, who has no permanent address but is known to frequent the Downtown area.
