HAWAII ISLAND: North Kohala and Hamakua are under a Flood Advisory as heavy rain and a landslide are being reported.
Police say a landslide is blocking the Hilo-bound lane of Hawaii Belt Road at Kawalii Gulch. Expect delays for up to two hours as travelers in both directions take turns using the road. State Highways workers are on the scene to clear the debris.
Kahana Drive above Old Mamalahoa Highway in the Ahualoa area is also closed between the 3- and 4-mile markers due flooding.
At 8:04 a.m. HST, the National Weather Service says radar indicated heavy rain that will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Heavy rain was located along the Hamakua Coast from Upolu Point to Laupahoehoe. Radar was showing rain falling at up to 1 inch per hour.
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kapaau, Honokaa, Kamuela, Laupahoehoe, Kukuihaele, Paauilo, Halaula and Mahukona.
The Flood Advisory is in effect until 11:15 a.m. HST
