High Surf Warning Continues Into Friday

HAWAII ISLAND (BIVN) - Hilo Bayfront Highway and all Hilo beaches remains closed. 15 ft waves are still possible into Friday.

HAWAII ISLAND – The National Weather Service has extended the High Surf Warning through Friday morning for the shores of Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo and Puna.

Surf as high as 15 feet for these shores is forecast, officials say.

Due to the High Surf impacts and debris clean-up, the following closures are in effect.

  • Bayfront Highway
  • All Hilo Beach Parks including Coconut Island
  • Laupahoehoe Boat Ramp
  • Keokeo Beach Park

“You are advised to exercise caution due to the unpredictability of huge swells and dangerous surf,” Hawaii County Civil Defense continues to report. “Oceanfront residents and beachgoers along the affected shores are advised to be on the alert for possible high and dangerous surf.
