(BIVN) – Hawaii County Councilmembers spent an entire day, working deep into the night, trying to find the right mix of Big Island property tax increases across the different classes in order to balance the budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year.
The video above was filmed around 8:30 p.m., after the elected officials had burned away all the daylight in the special session that began at 9 a.m.
The council went back and forth, adjusting numbers on a spreadsheet projected onto screens for all to see.
The councilmembers appeared to settle on the preferred array of rate increases and were preparing to tackle some minor budget reductions. The discussion would continue for hour afterwards.
We will have more information on the final budget plan.
