(BIVN) – Hawaii County Councilmembers offered up a variety of amendments to Mayor Harry Kim’s budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year, introducing them during a marathon special session in Hilo on Monday.
After hearing public testimony, the councilmembers each took a turn explaining their own proposed changes to the spending plan, before diving in to working the numbers for the next several hours.
At the start of the day, the budget (with estimated revenues and appropriations of $491,241,880) proposed property tax raises on all classes of property, except the affordable rental housing class, by approximately 6.5% percent.
